Travel Details
The closest airport to the sailing port is Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB). You should plan to arrive at least one day early on Friday, September 13th. We will depart from the boat on Saturday, September 21st.
OLB is a relatively small airport so there will not be any direct flights from the United States. We recommend setting price alerts for round trip flights from your home city to Milan, Naples, Rome, London, Dublin, Madrid or Paris and then booking a direct flight from there to Olbia. Those are the major cities in Europe that will fly directly to Olbia.
There is also the option to fly to Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG), which is the southernmost city on Sardinia. There is a 3 hour train that runs from that airport to Olbia.
Sailing Route
This year we are heading to the island of Sardinia Italy, a stunning and historical island on the west coast of Italy in the Tyrrhenian Sea. This route will cover the northeast section of Sardinia and include a stop in Corsica, France.
*This route is subject to change*
Day 1: Cannigione – La Maddalena
On day 1 we will board and load the boat in the Cannigione port. We will set sail for La Maddalena which is an archipelago around 60 isles and islands on the northeast coast of Sardinia. The national park is famous for its stunning beaches, such as Octopus Head Beach where we will definitely want to get out our snorkels and plunge in the water to see what’s beneath the surface.
Day 2: La Maddalena – Bonifacio
On stunning white limestone cliffs at the south end of Corsica lies the spectacular harbor town of Bonifacio, France. The old citadel rises high above the sea and overlooks the natural harbor below. Explore the many sights in Bonifacio along the cobblestone streets of the old town, along with its fabulous viewpoints along the ramparts. We will spend the night in this harbor and enjoy the vibrant nightlife and dining scene in Bonacio.
Day 3: Bonifacio – Budelli
Budelli is one of the most beautiful sights in the Archipelago of La Maddalena and is one of the most stunning beaches in the world with its turquoise waters and pink color sands of the Spiaggia Rosa.
Day 4: Budelli – Porto Cervo
Porto Cervo is one of Sardinia’s most well-known, luxurious and chic locations. The Costa Smeralda Yacht Club is one of the best equipped in the Mediterranean. This glamorous destination is the choice of rock stars and royalty, and it’s not difficult to see why. There is a fantastic mix of beaches, shopping, great nightlife and excellent restaurants.
Day 5: Porto Cervo – Caprera
The beautiful island of Caprera is known as the place where Giuseppe Garibaldi retired until his death in 1882, his home is now a museum and the island is a national monument. It is sparsely populated and is a heavily protected national park of astounding beauty!
Day 6: Caprera – Porto Rotondo
Gallura, the little town that is a strict competitor to Porto Cervo is filled with unique bars, nightlife and fabulous beaches. Situated just a few kilometers from Golfo Aranci, this exceptionally well maintained town also has a very well equipped marina with around 800 moorings for yachts. You can also anchor your yacht off Spiaggia Ira for a fun day of watersports or simply enjoy a stroll in the knee deep waters of this vast, powdery sand beach.
Day 7: Porto Rotondo – Cannigione
On the last day we will head back to the port of Canningione. Originally a fishing village, Cannigione is now a renowned tourist destination and a beautiful one at that! It’s home to a large, flat sandy beach with its surrounding waters popular among scuba divers and snorkelers.

FAQs
Read below for some frequently asked questions!
Q: What are the sleeping arrangements like on the boat?
A: Most catamarans have 4 double cabins, 2 single cabins and space for a maximum of 2 people to sleep on the pull out bed in the saloon. The skipper will take one of the single cabins and we recommend trying to put a maximum of 1 person in the saloon.
Q: How long do you sail for each day?
A: The sail times vary for each day but for this route in Sardinia, the average sail time is 1h45m with the longest being 2h30m.
Q: Do we hire someone to drive the boat?
A: Each boat will hire a professional skipper through our skipper network for the week. They are responsible for keeping us safe all week long and will handle driving the boat. They may need occasional help with the anchor or lines when docking. The guests are also responsible for feeding their skipper for the week.
Q: Do we get off the boat during the week?
A: Yes, definitely! While the boat is our housing and main form of transportation for the week, the itinerary is a mix of exploring different islands and cities off of the boat.
Q: Do people get seasick?
A: Seasickness does occur on trips like this but it is typically very minor and does not impact your overall experience. It is best to be prepared for seasickness before boarding the boat and have remedies ready during the week!
History of The Voyage x The Jet Lag Journey
We first fell in love with sailing trips when we went on our first trip together in 2019 on The Yacht Week in Greece. While we absolutely loved living on a sailboat for a week surrounded by amazing people and iconic views, there were certain aspects of being a guest on a trip that big that we did not love. First of all, was the pricing. We learned that these big companies upcharge you for your boat an insane amount and they are not properly compensating their skippers with that upcharge. Second, we did not love being on such a strict timeline. There were multiple times during the week that we were enjoying an activity and had to cut it short because we were required to maintain a specific timeline due to the amount of boats running the same route. Lastly, we felt this trip was only focused on the party aspect of a sailing trip. While that is a fun and important part of a social trip like this, it was a bit too much.
Because of those aspects that we did not love on that trip in Greece, we thought, why can’t we just plan our own sailing trip in a way that matches our travel pace and goals? We planned and ran the first Voyage trip in the British Virgin Islands in January of 2021. After that, we knew we were hooked and only wanted to plan sailing trips ourselves moving forward! The next trip was in Croatia in June 2023 where we had 3 boats and 30 guests attend!
The goal with Voyage is for you to experience all of the best aspects of a sailing trip at a lower cost and focus on experiencing the local culture while maintaining a healthy balance of partying and relaxation. We keep a loose itinerary in place in order to make sure the group can socialize and experience the fun together, but not strict enough that if you want to do something different, no worries! We believe that travel is about choosing your own adventure and The Voyage allows you to do that while giving you access to a vibrant social scene.
